One type of property that always remains popular with the overseas buyer is the golf resort home. Often found perched on hills surrounding perfectly manicured fairways these properties have always been firm favourites with the golfing enthusiast. But now it seems golf properties are becoming increasingly more popular with the non-golfing fraternity too. With many golf resorts boasting of facilities that cater for the whole family, good prospects of achieving all year round rental income and capital appreciation figures that compare favourably with homes on the coast, it means the savvy investor is now also seeing the benefits of owning a golf home.

Although at present you could not compare the number of courses in Cyprus to places like Spain, the few it does have can easily compare to some of the best that country has to offer. There are currently four exceptionally good golf resorts in Cyprus and plans for the construction of sevaral more. However this current crop of courses, the majority of which are found in the Paphos area, are all still giving buyers plenty of opportunity in finding themselves a golfing retreat.

Construction of a fifth course further away from the Pafos area is currently in progress and will be located in the small village of Tersefanou just outside Larnaca. This brand new PGA course will feature a hotel, a restaurant, several bars, a clubhouse, equestrian centre, entertainment area and retail complex. The resort itself will be complemented by a variety of apartments, villas and townhouses which are being built around the resort's perimeter, the majority of which should all have sea views from their prominent positions above the course. Completion of the Tersefanou Golf and Country Club is not expected until 2010, so until then the choice of golf properties in Cyprus is left in the capable hands of the four existing courses on the island. These are:

Secret Valley Golf Course

The Secret valley golf club is situated amongst mature trees and beautiful rock formations in one of Cyprus's most scenic valleys. Positioned in an ideal location only ten minutes drive from Pafos town it has the benefit of also being conveniently positioned for trips into Limassol and the Troodos mountains. Secret Valley is often cited as the largest and most prestigious of all the golf resorts in Cyprus, resulting in a thriving market for new and resale properties and golf lettings in the area.

Golf Property in Secret Valley - There is still a good mixture of golf homes and plots of land for sale around the resort, a good majority of which have unobstructed sea views. A Plot of land in Secret Valley invariably comes with permission to build a property of 20% of the land size. The availability of such plots has ensured that there is always a good choice of reputable developers and builders who will oversee the construction of golf homes in the area.

Tsada Golf Course

Tsada is another course located in the Pafos region. As with Secret Valley, Tsada Golf Course is only a short distance from Pafos making it an ideal location for exploring the Limassol and Troodos area. Built in the grounds of an old 12th century monastery and at a height of 550 metres it ensures golfers are pleasantly cooled by a fresh breeze during the hottest months. Tsada facilities include a clubhouse, restaurant and bar, outdoor swimming pool, tennis court, driving range and putting green.

Tsada Golf Property - Golf property here consists mainly of villas and apartments in adjacent villages. For example, the towns of Tala, Tremithousa, Peyia and Konia are all close by and are popular destinations for those seeking a property near the golf course. These towns are also in easy reach of Coral Bay, which as you know is one of Cyprus's most popular beach resorts.

Aphrodite Hills Golf Club

After five years in the making Aphrodite Hills was opened for business in 2002. Designed by acclaimed golf course architect Cabell B. Robinson it drapes itself over two plateaus 300 metres above the sea. With views over the legendary birthplace of Aphrodite and just 20km east of Paphos it is the one of three main courses in this area.

The 18 hole course offers a challenge to even the most seasoned of golfers. With a large central ravine bringing some drama to a game, the whole area surrounded by a protected forest, and fairways that cut through olive and carob trees it probably is the most scenic of all the golf courses.

Golf resort facilities include a luxury hotel, spa, golf academy, clubhouse, restaurant, bar and PGA instructors.

Aphrodite Golf property - If you are looking to buy a golf property at Aphrodite hills the choice is exceptional. The resort boasts of being the first full integrated golf, leisure and property development in Cyprus. Consequently there is an abundance of luxurious apartments, villas and townhouses from which to choose. The properties are of contemporary design incorporating features that celebrate their Mediterranean heritage. Shaded terraces, vines, water features, pastel colours and local materials are all used to great affect, ensuring the entire resort emanates a luxurious ambience to those who visit. There is also a thriving rental market where luxury villas can be rented out by those wishing to spend some time at the Aphrodite Hills Course.

Vikla Golf and Country Club

Vikla Golf and Country Club is located just 20 km from Limassol and markets itself as an ideal course for both beginner and advanced golfer alike. Vikla is an 18 hole course with a par of 72. To play a round of golf at Vikla does not require you to be in possession of a handicap certificate. Facilities include a clubhouse, bar and swimming pool. Vikla is the only golf course at present outside the Paphos area, so is a popular destination for day trippers from Limassol and the surrounding area.
