Schools in Limassol, Cyprus

When buying a Cyprus villa with the intention of relocating permanently there is often a lot more information required than the usual list of properties for sale. For example, if you have children then school will be an obvious necessity, and finding a good school on arrival in Cyprus will be of great importance to you and your family. To help you make a more informed decision we have listed details of the main schools you will find in the Limassol area.

Foley's School - 25-582191

Foley's is fast gaining recognition as one of the best schools in Limassol and perhaps even the whole of Cyprus. Gaining entry into Foley's, however, can be rather difficult and the school fees tend to be quite expensive. Exam results show a 100% pass rate at A Level standard. The school is very involved in Art and Drama and is particularly focused on image and achievement figures. French and Greek are taught on the curriculum. Foley's school is in the process of updating facilities and building a new school outside the city at Ayios Athanasios. The current school has an aura of a 1950's British School and can feel somewhat pretentious.

The Heritage School - 25- 362224

The Heritage School is another very good school in the Limassol area and is often the next choice after Foley's. The entrance exam is very easy as it is mainly there to test the English literacy of foreign students. Native English speakers will therefore find the entry exam very easy. The Maths can be a little harder than its UK equivalent, but this shouldn't pose a problem unless a child is seriously falling behind in their UK school. The Heritage School occupies 9 houses scattered over several streets in central Limassol, giving the whole school a very homely and family atmosphere. The overall impression of the Heritage school is of a welcoming and very relaxed place. The Heritage meets the needs of primary, senior and kindergarten students of all nationalities and there appears to be a happy balance of good education and social activity with less pressure on maintaining achievement figures.

St John's School - 25-211301

The St Johns School has a very good reputation. It is situated on the Episkopi army base and caters for mainly children from the base, although there is the possibility that non army base children can still attend.

St Mary's - 25 - 878398

St Mary's School is run by Nuns and gets very good exam results. It is one of the cheapest of the private school in Limassol. There is an entrance exam that assesses a child and correctly places them in a year suitable to their ability. The school puts languages high on its agenda and in primary level there is Greek, French and English studies. There is also a fair amount of homework set and this is expected to be done. In the Senior school they also study Italian and German. The school is split into 2 sections (Greek and English) and also in the Junior school they are taught in separate classes. The secondary school students study for GCSE's and A levels. Although the school is run by Nuns a lot of the classes are taken by civilian teachers. The costs are roughly £900 per year, plus books and uniform £80-100.
